Record Number of Visitors Expected in Ghana (and Their Souls Will Be Saved)
Ghana is expecting their country to be flooded with over 1,000,000 visitors, which is double the amount of visitors who came to Egypt for the last tournament. The Local Organizing Committee is hoping that this tournament will be considered the benchmark of African football, and with over 16,000 media personnel scheduled to cover this tournament, Ghana 2008 will be broadcast to a global audience of 4.2 billion – the largest ever in the history of the African Nations Cup.
The Chief Operating Officer, Magnus Rex Danquah (such a cool name), has urged Ghanaians to temporarily drop political, tribal, and ethnic disagreements and instead display their legendary warmth and generosity. Additionally, he has appealed to all citizens to have their best services available, to make sure that clean up crews are well organized, and especially to keep everything crime-free. After all, Ghana isn’t South Africa, and therefore tourists would not only like to survive their visit but would also appreciate good hospitality.
However, some Ghanaians are taking hospitality a step further. They will be hoping to use this tournament to win souls for Christ. Which makes total sense. After all, when I go to international football tournaments and watch my other team lose because of a very sexy headbutt, I know my soul needs definite saving.
