The Black Stars Get Jipped By Their Own Countrymen
It turns out that the Black Stars returned from their Dubai training camp to discover that their hotel accommodations for the duration of the African Cup of Nations have been canceled. They were supposed to stay at the Labadia Beach Hotel, a luxury resort in Accra, but because the Ghana FA booked these rooms months ago at a reduced rate, the hotel recently decided to cancel their bookings so that they could rent the rooms at a higher price.
So what if it’s your own national team? Profits are what count, right?
I’m guessing that the manager of the Labadia Beach Hotel is ignoring the fact that all Ghanaian hospitality services are, you know, supposed to be hospitable.
I too was surprised – profiteering is one thing, but kicking out your own national team from the hotel? That’s low.
Ghana’s reputation as a country are at stake, and considering that this CAN will have over 1,000,000 expected visitors, Ghana should be doing all they can to make this stay a memorable one for tourists.

I can’t believe this has happened in Ghana. I would expect it from some other places but this will now affect the reputation of the hospitality of the people in Ghana, even though it is only one resort. I hope there is enough negative publicity that people choose not to stay at this resort in the future. There are still enough good resorts on the beach that you can find someplace good to stay and avoid this place.

Inara, when I saw this story I was so appalled. You would think that ALL Ghanaians would be trying to provide an atmosphere that is conducive to their players putting their best foot forward. I’m interested to see how this will progress.
