Friendly Revamp

April 11th, 2006 | By: Robert | 4 Comments »

Along with a new training site, the Black Stars have substantially revamped (again) their friendly schedule leading up to the World Cup. Out are Hannover 96 and Belgium, in are Turkey and the Reggae Boyz of Jamaica.

Based on their new location, the GFA has apparently decided that they have better opportunities to face different squads and have planned accordingly. The Turkey match will be held in Germany on May 26 (location TBD), where Ghana will likely be decided underdogs and unfancied by the hordes of German Turks. The Jamaica match will be held under similar circumstances, in London on May 29. The original friendly with Korea (the only real neutral site of the bunch) will be held in Glasgow in early June.

The only question mark to be made is: what is the strategic advantage of these friendlies? Replacing a team playing in a stadium where the World Cup match will be held and a World Cup qualifiers with two mid-tier non-qualifiers doesn’t seem to make much sense.

Turkey and Jamaica are two teams full of dirty hacks. I would fear for Ghana’s healthy if I were you.

Turkey plays well. Creative and good with the ball. I didn’t follow their qualif. Don’t know their current strength. Since 96 Portugal met them twice, so I saw them. They also put Brazil under pressure. Think about it…

ghana will be able to beat turkey and jamiaca permitting the likes of derek asamoah and patrick agyemang are playing two inform strikers which ghana need instead of prince tagoe who is not use to the physical side of teams such as jamica. Rememeber ghaninas are made of fufu while jamiacans are made of patties.
