Good News on Kingston

March 16th, 2006 | By: Robert | 1 Comment »

Following a long period of negotiation, Ghana Football Association has announced that FIFA will allow Laryea Kingston to participate in the World Cup in Germany. Kingston, who was hit with a particularly severe four match ban during the CAN in Egypt for an off-pitch scuffle, had three matches left to serve of the ban. FIFA, according to local legend and chief negotiator Abedi Pele, believes that the CAN ban does not apply to the World Cup, rendering Kingston free to participate.

The change of position is warranted, as Kingston’s actions certainly did not rise to the penalty meted out. It is also welcomed by the Black Stars as this allows the vaunted midfield of Appiah, Essien, Kingston and Sam Johnson to be unleashed on the rest of the world.

Sorry to be the messenger of bad news but it doesn’t look like Kingston will be allowed to play after all. My heart goes out to all Black Stars fans.
