The Latest 411
Apparently Argentina is so insecure that they will need a boost of confidence heading into the World Cup. I note as Argentina has announced that it will compete in a friendly match on the eve of the World Cup with either the longshots Palancas Negras of Angola, or the currently rudderless Black Stars.
While some jousting will doubtless ensue to determine who competes in the match, one wonders whether the Black Stars would even merit consideration for participation were our current coaching straits not so dire. Clearly if minnows are sought, Angola (or particularly Togo) would be a better fit.
On the topic of the Grandmaster’s tenuous two-step, the Ghana Ministry of Sport (ever a lagging indicator of the zeitgeist) has come out opposed to the Black Stars technical bench. They have left open the possibility of adding local flavor to improve the bench without sacking the head technician, but have not spared Doya the threat of the axe. While local pandering is to be expected, one cannot but hope that all of this speculation comes to a head before it is too late.

I hope Ghana learn from this match, as they cannot hide from the thrashing they will get in the group they are at. If they think they are any better than Angola then they should try to get 1 point from their group.

[...] By now, we all know that the Angola Football Federation announced that the Palancas Negras will play Argentina in a friendly in Germany in late May. Well, according to officials in Argentina this game is not set in stone and Argentina could end up playing Ghana instead. You know that a country like Argentina can pretty much choose whoever it wants to play so Angola is really at the mercy of their decision. I would say that if I were Argentina, I would rather player Angola than Ghana. The Black Stars are a bunch of physical hacks and much more likely to take out one of Argentina’s players with injury than Angola. [...]
