Words of Wisdom

January 18th, 2006 | By: Robert | No Comments »

Leave it to none other than Tony Baffoe to preach a little wisdom to the struggling Black Stars.

Baffoe, former defender and Black Stars teammate of Anthony Yamoah and Abedi Pele, is a well known media celebrity in Germany and is the self appointed goodwill ambassador of Ghana to the 2006 World Cup. He was known on the pitch as a bit of an enforcer but more famously off it for his limitless carousing and is thought to be the Stars’ all-time greatest prankster.

When asked recently about the waning chances for the Stars in Egypt, he responded with characteristically optimistic aplomb, “It’s a good chance for the benchwarmers. There are players, who say they are better than this, or that player. Therefore, it’s a good chance for them to prove that the coach can count on them. That’s how soccer is! And that’s soccer, that’s life!”

Yes, that’s life my friends. And with a can-do attitude and devil-may-care willingness to stretch their bounds, some of these replacements may just surprise us. I, for one, am certainly hoping for that to be the case.
