All present and accounted for

May 24th, 2006 | By: Robert | No Comments »

Camp has officially broken in Austria for the Stars, and all twenty three members of the Stars are at camp. This marks the first time since October that the full squad of the Stars has been at the same place and time, so it is somewhat of a momentous achievement. This “together time” is critical in the face of a limited tune-up period for next month’s World Cup.

Looming large following a series of defeats at the hands of lesser known opposition is an international friendly Friday versus Turkey, Ghana’s first friendly versus a national team since the loss to Mexico in March, followed shortly by another Monday versus the Reggae Boyz of Jamaica. This match will be followed with a final tuneup June 4 versus South Korea (who managed to muster only a 1-1 draw versus Senegal last night).

Man on the ground Tony Baffoe has praised the “electric” atmosphere at camp, and player health has remained strong. As they say around here, it is always darkest before dawn, so one must hope that the recent action versus the Carinthians represents so bleak a moment, with dawn surely coming soon.
