Essien

This is the post that I have been avoiding writing for some time. Like most reputable correspondents, I try to avoid delving into the muck. And with the spate of recent jiao-tut’s lobbed from both directions, the mud has been flying in Accra.

Whether Essien feigned injury out of loyalty to club team Chelsea, whether he was too much of a prima donna to suit up for the Stars in the CAN, whether his squabbling with the Grandmaster were the real cause of his absence are unimportant to me. As are the equal claims thrown by Chelsea that the Grandmaster left him off the squad intentionally as a gambit, that Doya had Rio-Coker paid to injure Essien, and that Dujkovic’s lack of coaching ability was the reason for the feud.

The feud has reached the level of the Honorable Mr. Isaac Osei, high commissioner for Ghana to the UK, who has been forced to intercede and sully his most esteemed name that the two sides make peace. It has lasted too long and hurt too many reputations.

I say, lads bury the hatchet. The only concern should be whether Essien and the Stars are currently a good fit. At present, the verdict should be “let’s find out in Mexico.”
