Ghana Climbs in FIFA Rankings
Based largely on the poor performance of others, Ghana has shown a slight rise in standing in the latest FIFA rankings. In the final FIFA rankings before next month’s World Cup, Ghana has risen 2 positions to 48th in the World, surpassing Finland and declining Israel.
Ghana’s rise is unrelated to its national team performance, which has been dismal of late and relatively silent in the ranking period rated. Instead, it is rising in position due to the failure of teams like Israel to meet competitively versus lower rated squads.
Among African nations competing in the World Cup, Ghana is thoroughly mediocre (trailing 21st rated Tunisia and Cote D’Ivoire but ahead of rising Angola and faltering Togo). In its group, Ghana is a decided underdog, trailing Czech Republic (2), US- (an unjustified 5), and Italy.
