Ghana, Stuttgart Tie

April 27th, 2006 | By: Robert | No Comments »

Yesterday’s friendly featured solid play by Ghana, but an unfortunate result: a 1-1 tie caused by a late equalizer from the Bundesliga side. Ghana were led by a sixtieth minute goal from midfielder Otto Addo.

Ghana’s rag-tag lineup was more cohesive than expected, and the Stars had the better play throughout, controlling the action during a scoreless first stanza. Their solid attack finally found fruit in Addo’s score, set up beautifully by Haminu Dramani following a bold charge by the FSZ Mainz attacker. The Stars appeared to tire late, however, and the Germans seized the offensive. Their constant pressure in the endgame ultimately led to a Dane Jon Dahl Tomasson equalizer.

The most disappointing news of the friendly was an injury to Brentford’s Lloyd Owusu, recently called up for his national team debut. Owusu limped off with a torn groin and will be inactive for 6 to 8 weeks, effectively killing his World Cup dreams. Isaac Boakye also limped off with what has initially been deemed a less serious injury.
