Lost in the Shuffle?

Everyone knows that an international friendly is a great boondoggle for the reserves, who will get some great sightseeing and the opportunity to meet legions of adoring fans even if they do not get to see the pitch. However, today’s transit offers a cautionary tale for those who take a little too much time stopping to smell the roses.

As you likely know, the Stars had a bit of a layover in the Frankfurt airport. Given the time, the team was able to eat at the restaurants available (which most travelers are aware are absolutely awful). A few of the more intrepid decided to eat at an Asian restaurant in the basement level, among them backup keeper an Stars occasional Philemon McCarthy.

Those familiar with the Frankfurt airport also doubtless know that there is an adult gift shop located in the basement, conveniently in the path of those seeking to dine at the asian restaurant. Apparently, following a hearty repast (but before the inevitable indigestion that the Frankfurt airport provides), our man Phil decided to peek into the shop, perhaps to purchase a gag gift to shock roommate and ardent christian George Owu.

No one knows what happened inside or what kept him, but reports indicate that McCarthy had a particularly sheepish grin when he heard the frantic intercom message that his flight was in final boarding. Though he made the flight, our man is apparently a bit in the soup. Let’s all pray this was a valuable lesson.
