Meeting this weekend to Decide Doya’s Fate
According to Ghana Minister of Sport Amoah, the continued presence of the Grandmaster, Ghana head technician Ratomir “Doya” Dujkovic, will be determined at a meeting this weekend between the Ministry of Sport and the GFA. Amoah provided this information at a radio call in show in Kumasi following legions of outraged fans calling to complain that the coach has not yet been sacked following a 1-6 start to 2006.
The Ghana bureaucracy, never one to rush to a conclusion, seem to be proceeding deliberately in the consideration of Doya’s, and the Stars’, fate. Popular sentiment, at least according to the barometers I follow (chat room gossip, radio call in shows, kelewele stand banter) once was decidedly mixed. Lately, however, there seems to be a growing popular sentiment to sack the Grandmaster.
As in any chess match, Doya appears to have made numerous sacrifices in search of additional advantage in timing and position, but as the match has worn on and dramatic results have not followed, his loss of material has caught up with him. Grandmaster, if you have one final gambit now is the time to play it. The fate of the Stars in Germany may rest on it.
