Nice Delivers a Beating

May 10th, 2006 | By: Robert | 1 Comment »

Proving that a squad of stand-ins and replacements on an underdog National team side can be a threat to no one, French Ligue 1 side Nice thrashed the Black Stars band of scrubs soundly yesterday, 3-0. There were few rays of light in the Stars awkward performance, and it looks like Doya will have to return to the whiteboard to find new talent to support his thin starting ranks in Germany.

The French side took an early lead via a 10th minute goal by de Vahirua and never ceded the attack throughout. They compounded their lead with a pair of additional safety goals midway through the second half. Throughout, Nice was the aggressor, and Ghana had few convincing chances.

The Black Stars continuity was hurt somewhat by rather overfrequent substitutions, with equal time being shared by many players, including split time at goal between George Owu and starter Richard Kingston. Neither were impressive, though, suggesting that it could be a long few weeks for Samuel Adjei. Judging from the football I witnessed, there were no real winners on the Ghana side and anyone who played will be lucky to be one of the favored 23 tomorrow.
