Other Potential Call ups
In anticipation of the Stuttgart friendly and the coming friendly season generally, the floodgates have opened to speculation on other call-ups to the Black Stars for the annual review process. In particular, Lloyd Owusu and newly available Ibrahim Salou will be expected to get hard looks in the coming weeks, starting as early as next Wednesday.
Owusu, the 29 year old Brentford striker, played for the Stars first internationally last year. He is considered a formidable striker, but seems somewhat of a longshot to make the World Cup this summer, even given the Stars relative weakness on attack. Still, Owusu plans to keep working hard at his football to ensure the Stars the best possible opportunity in Germany.
Salou, a Ghana born Belgian, acquired Belgian citizenship last month and seemed in line for a call-up when he made the surprise decision to opt to compete for his native Ghana. The Zulte-Waregem striker had the distinction of scoring in all fourteen of the first division matches he entered this season, drawing long glances from the Belgium FA. Still, the overwhelming love of Ghana more than withstood his interest in competing for Belgium, and Salou can have his cake and eat it too, earning both an EU passport and a Ghana international cap. We will see this spring whether he is ready for Germany, too.
