Outrage at Inequitable FIFA Radio Judgment

January 14th, 2006 | By: Robert | No Comments »

On a day when FIFA proved yet again its inability to manage a first rate event (see Opening Gala/Hasselhoff fiasco), FIFA officials dealt Ghanaian citizenry a second cruel blow- refusing to allow radio broadcast of world cup matches.

GFA General Secretary Kofi Nsiah, perhaps fearing a backlash, expressed a somewhat muted response:

“It is rather unfortunate but that’s the situation we are faced with. FIFA frowns on radio broadcast of the world cup and in our case, we don’t have the broadcast rights to the 2006 world cup.

There is a somewhat arcane appeal and reapplication process, but given the extremely truncated window between the announcement of its decision and the reapplication date (Jan. 15), the intent to deny Ghana the opportunity to receive informed local commentary on its historic maiden voyage through the turgid seas of the World Cup is akin to treachery.

This Stinks. FIFA has yet again proven to be not the benevolent ringmaster that we should expect, but that poor sad dwarf clown who chases around the clown car because it can’t fit inside that we have come to bemoan.

Sepp Blatter, please take off your Herve Villechaize mask and reconsider!
