Ghana’s internationals’ transfer update + team news for Swazi AFCON 2012 qualifier

Ghana team news

The guys have had their first training session already. They had started arriving in Jo’burg, South Africa for the Sunday game and they’ll be based there till tomorrow when all the guys should have landed.

Andre and Jordan Ayew (Olympic Marseille) got there on Tuesday. So did Emmanuel Agyemang Badu and Kwadwo Asamoah (both Udinese, Italy).

Prince Tagoe (Hoffenheim, Germany), Hans Sarpei (Schalke 04), David Addy (Porto, Portugal) and Jonathan Mensah from Spain are also in.

Transfer update

Obviously the big transfer news so far is Ghana is concerned was Asamoah Gyan to Sunderland, but he’s not the only Black Star on the move.

Francis Dickoh

Remember him? The 27-year-old central defender Francis Dickoh agreed terms with Hibernian on transfer deadline day, after signing a one-year deal at Easter Road. He’s Danish born but opted to play for Ghana some years ago and has since had 13 caps, after making his debut for the Black Stars in November 2005 v Saudi Arabia. Just before the 2008 AFCON, he was in the news as he threatened to quit Ghana due to little playing time.

Laryea Kingston
He was famously left out of Ghana’s South Africa squad and he’s now signed for Vitesse Arnhem in Holland. He trained with the side this morning and it’s good because he’s been looking for a club since Hearts of Midlothian drifted apart in May.

This adds to the moves by the other players I’d reported earlier. A few weeks after the end of the World Cup, the guys weren’t moving and people were starting to get worried. Slowly, player after player got a deal and now here we are.

Here’s the 22-men squad as called by Milovan Rajevac:

GK: Richard Kingson (Unattached), Daniel Agyei (Liberty Professionals, Ghana) Isaac Amoako (Asante Kotoko, Ghana)

Defense: John Pantsil (Fulham, England) Samuel Inkoom (Basel, Switzerland) Hans Adu-Sarpei (Schalke 04, Germany), David Addy (Academica Coimbra, Portugal) John Boye (Rennes, France), Lee Addy (Bechem Chelsea, Ghana) Jonathan Mensah (Granada, Spain) and Isaac Vorsah (Hoffenheim, Germany) .

Midfielders: Anthony Annan (Rosenborg, Norway), Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu (Udinese, Italy), Kwadwo Asamoah (Udinese, Italy) Andre Ayew (Marseille, France) Kevin-Prince Boateng (AC Milan, Italy) Jordan Ayew (Marseille, France) and Bernard Kumordzi (Panionios FC, Greece).

Forwards: Asamoah Gyan (Rennes, France) will partner Matthew Amoah (NAC Breda, Holland), Prince Tagoe (Hoffenheim, Germany) and Yaw Antwi (FK Vojvodina, Serbia)

That’s all for now. Till later.

Gary, I just hope the absence of proven goal scorers like MUntari, Essien and co doesn't affect the ability of Milo's Black Stars to score goals. NO matter how bad the likes of Muntari may be, they have proven beyond doubt that they are capable of banging in goals even from distance. The likes of Kodwo Asamoah, Dede Ayew are promising, but it ought to be said that they lack that crucial ability to score goals. For now I expect Gyan to continue bearing the responsibility of goal scoring. Great blog.
